Butterfly Beach

Butterfly beach | बटरफ्लाई बीच | Honeymoon beach | हनीमून बीच

Goa has tons of amazing features to boast about. From a tropical setting of sublime beaches to historical sights and buildings, you can immerse yourself in a world of fascinating experiences here. One such amazing experience is the adventure of travelling to the famous Butterfly Beach a.k.a honeymoon beach, a hidden gem amongst the state’s adventurous beaches. Surrounded by striking natural beauty and a picturesque landscape, the beach makes for a haven of unique experiences. Plus, you will find a thriving marine life and an abundance of butterflies for which the beach gets its name. So friends butterfly beach is located in between Agonda and Palolem beach in South Goa. If you are traveling via a bike or a car it will take you almost one and half hours from the international airport at dabolim or margao railway station to reach at this place. My advice for you will be to take a bike on rent  if you are a tourist and then visit this place. Since the beach is surrounded by a dense forest on one side and ocean on the other side it is nearly impossible for you to reach this place on your vehicles till the last point.

I’ll tell two ways to reach this place, but first take a look at my video on Youtube which will make it 10 times easier for you to reach the place and know every little bit of information about it.

Either you can take a ferry or boat from agonda beach or palolem beach and reach here which will cost you handsome amount of money. If you are not being cheated by the boatsman you will end up paying Rs 1500 for a 15 minutes simple boat ride. Talking of the positive side of it, you will be able to sea dolphins and other fishes and can enjoy a beautiful view as well from deep inside the sea. But I won’t suggest u a ferry ride if you are a couple or travelling with a group of friends.   I would strictly advice you to reach this place by trekking though the jungle. If you have reached the place via a bike or two wheeler it would be farely easy for you to reach as close as 200 metres near the beach and from there you can walk comfortably and reach the beach. But the kaccha road here has pretty sharp turns and is slippery too where your bikes may skid. Also once you reach near the place and are trekking in the forest you may find snakes on the way. And if you are traveling in monsoons you need to be extra cautious because the forest becomes too dense and there are high chances of snake bites. So if possible wear a good pair of sports shoes and carry a stick along with you when you are trekking.

Also I would advice you to download this section of map before coming here through google maps because there isn’t sufficient network to browse along the way. And you may not get the exact way when you are trekking with the help of google maps. But its okie, there are multiple paths and all will take you to the same spot.

1.               On reaching the place you will see a beautiful crest shaped view which looks like a half moon. You may find lots of foreigners on the beach because it is not easy to reach the place via trekking. 95% of the people reach here via ferry or boat rides. The beach is not very large in terms of area but is really beautiful and hence is also a major hub for models and photographers. You may find people doing photo shoots here. Foreigners usually prefer to spend full day here and usually come here along with their cooking items to have a nice picnic with their families. While majority of Indians you will find here are couples and that is also the reason it is also called the honeymoon beach . Friends I visited this place along with my friends and had a grand time. If you are in a group you may carry a football or a volleyball. You will love this beach and would never want to return back. Especially if you are photogenic then this place has been specially designed for you.

Do not forget to carry your portable Bluetooth speakers. If you are climbing up on the rocks to take the top view then be a little extra cautious as the rocks are slippery. Also the beach is very steep and after taking a  few steps you may find it very deep. So keep this in mind if you are a non-swimmer.

One of the activities that you can do here is spotting the beautiful golden butterflies found here which is why this beach is called butterfly beach. Also if you are travelling during low tides, you will see sea urchins, sea cucumbers, crabs, and goldfish, which make for a pretty spectacular sight. While if you are interested in watersports then Canoeing,  boat riding,  snorkelling and kayaking  are the most popular options available for you. You can hire a professional instructor to ensure your safety, and you’ll find plenty of these services at the beach. Otherwise, you can also opt for rock climbing, trekking through forests, and sunbathing. But if you are visiting here along with your partner just open up your umbrellas and enjoy the tides, music and each others company. You will surely love it.
